Enacted as a social development initiative and modeled after the Café Philosophique initiated by Marc Sautet in France, Cafe Scientifique Nigeria aims at promoting science literacy in the society by setting an open platform for the engagements and idea-sharing based on old and novel technologies revolutionizing societies with potentials for African communities.
We believe the public should explore and engage with experts on ideas in science and technology blended with the art and socio-cultural peculiarities vis-à-vis concerns of their society. Through strategic partnerships, corporate sponsorships, and grant donorship, our aim is for a sustainable engagement of Cafe Scientifique Nigeria across the country.
Be a part of the scientific renaissance in Africa
The premiere Café Scientifique was initiated in 1998 at Leeds, United Kingdom. The Cafés at Leeds branched across the UK and the rest of the world. As of 2017, the Café Scientifique ran in about 240 cities on the globe from the United Kingdom to Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Africa.
The first African Café Scientifique was launched in South Africa during the SASOL Scifest as Wozan Sikhulume (meaning “come let’s talk about science”). It has since found its way to Kenya (2009), Uganda (2014), Burundi, and Rwanda.
The inaugural event held in Lagos as the Café Scientifique Nigeria is scheduled to be piloted in Oyo, Ebonyi, Osun, and Federal Capital Territory in its first season and to other parts of the country as much as capacity could take for expansion.
